With the pandemic situation in Taiwan remaining severe, BE Health Ventures and BE Accelerator are honored to see the teams we invest in and support standing together to fight COVID-19 and contribute to this land we call home.
Among them, UBI Pharma (6562)—a subsidiary of United Biomedical, Inc. and a portfolio company of BE Health Ventures—delivered an impressive performance on the Emerging Stock Board. We are grateful to have participated in and supported UBI Pharma’s vaccine R&D journey.
Guided by a mission to Taiwan and a commitment to this land, UBI Pharma Chairperson Wang Chang-Yi was galvanized by Taiwan’s vaccine procurement challenges to contribute her expertise. The goal is to help Taiwan through the pandemic and, leveraging the nation’s advanced capabilities in vaccine R&D, design, and manufacturing, lead Taiwan onto the global stage and make the world see Taiwan.
“We have aimed for global competition from day one.”
This is not only UBI Pharma’s resolve, but also the mission of BE Health Ventures and BE Accelerator as we help Taiwan’s medical startups go global.
COVID-19 has directly accelerated the momentum of healthcare innovation and opened international opportunities for Taiwan’s startups. With the support of Taiwan Tech Arena (TTA), BE Health Ventures and BE Accelerator have joined this effort. We applaud our teams’ perseverance and tireless dedication, and we are proud of the broader contributions from Taiwan’s healthcare startups.
Taiwan’s Healthcare Startups Shine—Riding Pandemic Tailwinds to the Global Stage
Anti-COVID Startup: Airmod Medical × AI Continuous Respiratory Monitoring
-
BE Health Ventures portfolio / BE Accelerator Batch 4
Airmod Medical is one of the few global smart-device teams developing AI continuous respiratory monitoring based on “respiratory sounds.” Its product AIRMOD AS-101 Electronic Stethoscope, combined with a centralized remote monitoring system, visualizes auscultation in real time. Clinicians can “see” what they used to “hear,” while AI assists in monitoring respiratory status and symptoms—enabling earlier intervention before respiratory failure or oxygen desaturation.
Anti-COVID Startup: iWEECARE × Remote Continuous Temperature Monitoring
-
BE Health Ventures portfolio / BE Accelerator Batch 4
Founded in 2014, iWEECARE’s cross-functional team (hardware, software, clinical, cloud) created Temp Pal, which played a pivotal role in COVID-19 prevention. The postage-stamp-sized soft patch continuously transmits temperature data wirelessly to a mobile app, records trends, and triggers fever alerts to accelerate clinical action. Deployments include Cheng Hsin General Hospital and Show Chwan Healthcare System in Taiwan, and international pilots with Japanese hospitals, Thailand’s largest private hospital, and Cork University Hospital in Ireland.
Anti-COVID Startup: Rehabotics Medical Technology (LongGood) × Scenario-Based Tele-Rehabilitation
-
BE Health Ventures portfolio / BE Accelerator Batch 3
LongGood is Taiwan’s first software developer combining smart technologies with rehabilitation medicine, using a game-based interface and camera-based motion analysis to guide and assess home rehab. With over 40% of patients avoiding hospital rehab during COVID-19, LongGood captured domestic and overseas demand. In Taiwan, nearly 200 medical institutions—including Tri-Service General Hospital—have adopted its solutions, which also earned the SNQ National Quality Mark. Overseas partners in Japan, Singapore, and China approached LongGood for licensing, leading to successful market entry in Singapore.
Anti-COVID Startup: JelloX Biotech × New Taipei “Virtual Ward”
-
BE Accelerator Batch 1
Partnering with New Taipei City Government, JelloX Biotech helped build the New Taipei Virtual Ward during the COVID-19 surge, inspired by the UK model. Its core products—electronic medical records and telehealth platforms—are used by dozens of hospitals (e.g., NTU Hospital, Mackay, Taipei Veterans General). In Japan, it collaborated with GENKIDO Group to set up a smart long-term care center in Saitama, and supported Urawa High School with thrice-daily health reporting to successfully prevent cluster infections.
Anti-COVID Startup: Winnoz × Haiim Vacuum Capillary Blood Collection System
-
BE Accelerator Batch 1
Founded in 2014, Winnoz’s team spans molecular biology, biomedical science, and genetic engineering. Its Haiim Vacuum Finger-Prick Blood Collection System—the world’s only vacuum capillary collection device—holds patents in eight countries. Paired with COVID-19 or other rapid test kits, point-of-care screening can be performed immediately. A single sample supports multiple rapid tests, benefiting outbreak-stricken communities. Winnoz received urgent orders from Hungary and Israel, aiding global containment efforts.
Anti-COVID Partner: Show Chwan Healthcare System × Low-Cost Negative-Pressure Facilities
-
BE Accelerator & BE Health Ventures ecosystem partner
Professor Weng Kuo-Liang (NCUT) developed a full-outdoor-air heat-exchange HVAC system, collaborating with Show Chwan to build negative-pressure isolation wards and micro negative-pressure testing stations at low cost. Such facilities ensure fresh-air exchange and protect healthcare workers, patients, and families—especially critical for testing sites and community quarantine locations.
